Frequently Asked Questions
We strongly discourage a gift of money as it is not in the spirit of WYB to extend money. Instead, we encourage you to extend yourself in a more personal way.
It is our philosophy that when one person demonstrates personal vulnerability to another human being by offering something as precious as their own time, energy, personal belongings, and a demonstration of talents and gifts for the enhancement of others, that community is formed and sustained.
Money is often offered instead of human involvement, which promotes detachment. In addition, it is our philosophy that the fruit or product of personal sacrifice is not only new and deepening relationships but eventually a closer community as others begin to mimic or replicate the act of sacrificial giving. Gifts of money rarely if ever offer the same rewards.
VSP stands for 'Volunteer Support Person'. A VSP is a volunteer and an active and experienced user of the WYB website. VSPs offer their time to support new members of WYB as they become familiar with our website, helping them make the most of their experience. They also promote WYB to their friends, family, colleges and members of their neighborhood or place of work. If you are interested in becoming a VSP, click here.
If you have already established an account click here and send us a request. If you have not yet established an account and you personally know a VSP, ask him or her for a referral code that will link them to your account, or click here to send us a request.
In some cases your VSP is a Verifier and can validate your account. If this is not the case, you can look for a Verifier near you by clicking the link 'Find WYB Verifier' under your photo. There you can type in your zip code and find the Verifier nearest to you. Be sure to call the Verifier in advance to set an appointment and to make certain you have all of the required documentation.
Profiles highlighted in red on the 'Help Someone' page, the 'Search Friends' page or on your 'My Profile' page are users of WYB who have not yet been Verified. Users who are not Verified have not had their identity confirmed and matched to their state/or government issued identification such as a drivers license or passport. We ask you to use caution and common sense as it is possible that any user who has not been Verified could be using an alias and not their real name or a false photo image. Verified profiles appear in blue.
Begin by doing a search for someone in your community that has a need you can fulfill. Click the 'Help Someone' tab on the left. Type in your city or zip code and select a category and a radius. Scroll through the listing. To read a more detailed description of a need, click on the 'View' button. Here you can also send a message to initiate communication with the person you select.
Once you have come to agreement with the WYB member you have chosen to help, a Validation Key will be automatically generated for both of you. To view or print this Validation Key, click the link under your photo on your profile page that reads 'Validation Keys'. Print this page and take it with you when you go to help them. It contains helpful information to make it easier to identify the person you plan to meet.
After you have assisted you fellow WYB member update your account. To do this, log into your account and click 'Just Got/Gave Gift' on your Profile page. Enter a Phileo Rating for the person you just met and type a recommendation. Your profile status will be updated when you click 'Update Status'.
If you have a need, go to the 'Post Need' link found on your profile page. Type a brief title describing your need. Choose a category that best matches your need and type a detailed description. When you submit this need, it will be posted to the 'Help Someone' page to be viewed by others who are looking to meet a need. Also, an email will be sent to all Wybers who have posted gifts that match keywords you typed in your need title.
If your Char-Ratio is 0.00 or 0.50, you must first give a gift to someone who has a need before your post will show. For more information on Char-Ratios and how they work, click here.
There is never a limit on your ability to give and help someone else in need. You can begin now.
At any one time you can have a maximum of three needs posted. You may choose to replace existing needs by deleting a posting before adding a new need.
We strongly suggest that you do not offer or exchange money, but rather offer your time, a service, or some item or thing you possess. Your gift and the exchange of your gift should not violate any law, statute, ordinance or regulation or the rights of any person or entity.
If you and another person in your community have come together to exchange a gift that has resulted in conflict, we recommend that you do your best to work it out with that person. If your best efforts do not bring about a satisfactory resolution, we recommend you request other members of your community to offer themselves as objective witnesses, hearing both sides of the dispute to help bring about harmony. You may consider asking your VSP or a Community Leader to offer themselves to participate in such a role.
On your profile page, click on the notice showing the number of needs or gifts you have posted. You will find this link above the 'Post Need' button. There you may delete or edit any post for a need or a gift.
Our website keeps track of how many people each person has successfully introduced to WYB. We believe that each person who can recognize their neighbor as a fellow brother or sister, brings about greater peace among humanity and a greater harmony with our environment as we share resources with one another reducing waste. This, we believe, is a reason worth celebrating. One way that we celebrate is to recognize the number of people we have each successfully introduced to WYB using our electronic tools.
Your referral count will increase by one when a person registers for WYB using a referral code you gave them or when a person registers after using a referral link generated when you use the 'Spread the Word' tool.
If you wish to cancel your account, you will find a link on the 'Account Settings' page. We are sorry that you believe WYB is not for you and we hope that you will reconsider in the future.
