Frequently Asked Questions
Should I give money? Back to the Top
We strongly discourage a gift of money as it is not in the spirit of WYB to extend money. Instead, we encourage you to extend yourself in a more personal way.
It is our philosophy that when one person demonstrates personal vulnerability to another human being by offering something as precious as their own time, energy, personal belongings, and a demonstration of talents and gifts for the enhancement of others, that community is formed and sustained.
Money is often offered instead of human involvement, which promotes detachment. In addition, it is our philosophy that the fruit or product of personal sacrifice is not only new and deepening relationships but eventually a closer community as others begin to mimic or replicate the act of sacrificial giving. Gifts of money rarely if ever offer the same rewards.
What is a VSP? Back to the Top
VSP stands for 'Volunteer Support Person'. A VSP is a volunteer and an active and experienced user of the WYB website. VSPs offer their time to support new members of WYB as they become familiar with our website, helping them make the most of their experience. They also promote WYB to their friends, family, colleges and members of their neighborhood or place of work. If you are interested in becoming a VSP, click here.
How can I get a VSP to assist me? Back to the Top
If you have already established an account click here and send us a request. If you have not yet established an account and you personally know a VSP, ask him or her for a referral code that will link them to your account, or click here to send us a request.
Where can I go to be Verified? Back to the Top
In some cases your VSP is a Verifier and can validate your account. If this is not the case, you can look for a Verifier near you by clicking the link 'Find WYB Verifier' under your photo. There you can type in your zip code and find the Verifier nearest to you. Be sure to call the Verifier in advance to set an appointment and to make certain you have all of the required documentation.
Why are some profiles highlighted in red and some in blue? Back to the Top
Profiles highlighted in red on the 'Help Someone' page, the 'Search Friends' page or on your 'My Profile' page are users of WYB who have not yet been Verified. Users who are not Verified have not had their identity confirmed and matched to their state/or government issued identification such as a drivers license or passport. We ask you to use caution and common sense as it is possible that any user who has not been Verified could be using an alias and not their real name or a false photo image. Verified profiles appear in blue.
I have concerns about safety? Back to the Top
WYB is concerned about your safety. We have taken several measures to create a safe online environment where you can communicate with others with a reasonable sense of security that your private information is protected and that the people you interact with are who they claim to be. However, like any security system, it is not impenetrable. See our Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use Agreement. If you still have questions you can send us a message by clicking here.

Begin by doing a search for someone in your community that has a need you can fulfill. Click the 'Help Someone' tab on the left. Type in your city or zip code and select a category and a radius. How do I resolve conflict with my brother? Back to the Top
If you and another person in your community have come together to exchange a gift that has resulted in conflict, we recommend that you do your best to work it out with that person. If your best efforts do not bring about a satisfactory resolution, we recommend you request other members of your community to offer themselves as objective witnesses, hearing both sides of the dispute to help bring about harmony. You may consider asking your VSP or a Community Leader to offer themselves to participate in such a role.

What is considered a referral and why are they tracked? Back to the Top
Our website keeps track of how many people each person has successfully introduced to WYB. We believe that each person who can recognize their neighbor as a fellow brother or sister, brings about greater peace among humanity and a greater harmony with our environment as we share resources with one another reducing waste. This, we believe, is a reason worth celebrating. One way that we celebrate is to recognize the number of people we have each successfully introduced to WYB using our electronic tools.
Your referral count will increase by one when a person registers for WYB using a referral code you gave them or when a person registers after using a referral link generated when you use the 'Spread the Word' tool.
How do I cancel my account? Back to the Top
If you wish to cancel your account, you will find a link on the 'Account Settings' page. We are sorry that you believe WYB is not for you and we hope that you will reconsider in the future.
